Last week, MV Hagland Chief concluded a five year time-charter employment with Hagland Bulk Shipping in Haugesund, Norway. At the same time, the ownership of MV Hagland Chief was taken over by Hagland just like that of sister vessel ‘Hagland Captain’ last year. The transfer marks five years of excellent cooperation between Dutch ‘JR Shipping Group’ and its Norwegian business associate.

In the autumn of 2011, ‘JR Ship Brokers & Consultants’ brokered the newbuilding orders for the two, typical Nordic-market, self-dischargers at Indian yard group Chowgule for which ‘JR Ship Brokers & Consultants’ does the marketing & sales in Europe. The financing for the two vessels could be arranged by ‘JR Ship Investments’. Two Dutch NV-companies were initiated and fully funded. ‘JR Ship Management’ took care of the newbuilding supervision and the positioning of both vessels to North Europe during the summer of 2012. Since then, companies of the ‘JR Shipping Group’ were responsible for the management of the two NV-companies as well the full management of the two vessels. Hagland Bulk Shipping AS took both vessels on a long year time-charter.

For ‘R.G. Hagland’ this one stop shopping solution had enormous added value. It allowed them to consolidate their leading role in the Nordic self-discharger market, being the first industry participant in years to add new tonnage to its fleet. Being able to operate with two modern, eco-friendly vessels, optimized for delivering the best of performance to their cargo clients, boosted Hagland’s strong market position even further. Of specific interest to Hagland was the option to purchase both vessels after 4 or 5 years. And so she did. In the process, value was created for all stakeholders involved.

‘JR Shipping Group’ is very proud being Hagland’s partner for so many years now and is looking forward to the next joint venture.

The case of the ‘Captain’ and ‘Chief’ clearly demonstrate what the diversified group of specialised companies within the ‘JR Shipping Group’ are able to offer.
