MV Energizer joined the JR Shipping fleet in August 2004 as the third vessel operated by the group from the Volharding Shipyards 750 series. Her design combines flexible container loading with capacity for refrigerated containers.
Built in 2004, Energizer has a container capacity of 750 TEU and an overall length of 134.65 metres. Her propulsion system includes a 7,200 kW MaK engine. The vessel’s listed service speed is 17.5 knots.
Energizer is one of five 750 TEU feeders included in JR Shipping’s completed retrofit programme. The work adapted the bow shape and propeller geometry to today’s lower operating speeds and varying draughts. JR Shipping reports an average fuel saving of 26% across the five vessels during the first months after their retrofits. This programme result is not a separately measured saving for Energizer.
For Energizer, the sustainability story includes both the retrofit programme and changes to everyday provisions on board. JR Shipping introduced filtered drinking water refill stations across its container fleet in 2025. This provides an alternative to disposable bottles and complements the group’s work to reduce fuel consumption in the existing fleet.
