MV Energy is a 750 TEU container feeder built by Volharding in 2004. She measures 134.65 metres overall and is equipped with a 7,200 kW MaK 8M43 engine. Her listed service speed is 17.5 knots.
Energy is included in JR Shipping’s programme to adapt existing feeders to the way they are operated today. The retrofit modified the bow shape and propeller blades for lower operating speeds and varying draughts.
The group’s 2026 annual report records an initial CII score improvement from 25.71 before the retrofit to 21.94 afterwards, a reduction of 14.7%. CII measures emissions relative to transport performance. This result should not be read as a 14.7% reduction in total CO₂ emissions or a guaranteed saving on each voyage.
Energy’s retrofit addresses the vessel’s operating efficiency, while JR Shipping’s wider container fleet programme also considers waste on board. Filtered drinking water refill stations were introduced in 2025, allowing crew members to reuse bottles. Reducing disposable packaging adds a practical everyday measure to the group’s technical work on fleet emissions.
