The vital role of international shipping creates interesting investment opportunities. JR Shipping Group is pleased to announce that within a period of just three weeks, it has successfully placed all 99 available equity shares in the MV Expert (a 1,025 TEU container vessel. The shipping group has thereby raised € 4,950,000,- completing the financing of the MS Expert. The fact that all participations have been fully subscribed reflects the confidence of investors, and JR Shipping Group takes pride in having successfully facilitated the acquisition of this vessel.
Market Developments
As outlined in the project prospectus, the shipping group identified the opportunity to acquire this container vessel last summer for € 9.25 million. In the meantime, the 1,025 TEU container vessel was reappraised on October 24 at € 10.7 million. The base scenario in the prospectus assumes an average charter rate of € 11,000,- resulting in an estimated ROI of 13%. In recent weeks, however, sister vessels have been chartered at rates of € 13,500,-. JR Shipping Group secured the purchase option during the summer, prior to the rise in rates, creating a compelling investment opportunity that investors have clearly recognized.
Potential Further Sustainability Measures
In addition to monitoring market developments, the shipping group is proactively exploring opportunities to further enhance the sustainability of the MV Expert. Across its fleet, JR Shipping is implementing measures to reduce environmental impact. For example, some container vessels have been outfitted with systems capable of filtering CO₂ from exhaust gases in the future. Additional initiatives aim to reduce fuel consumption and decrease emissions of CO₂ and other pollutants through “retrofit” modifications.
For the MV Expert, similar retrofit measures are planned for the future. These may include replacing the bulbous bow to reduce water resistance at the lower speeds typical of today’s shipping operations. Comparable assessments on other vessels in the JR Shipping fleet have achieved up to a 25% reduction in resistance, leading to potential savings on fuel costs and carbon emissions charges.
