Great business, great challenges – committing to sustainability in short sea shipping.

JR Shipping Group is thrilled to announce the publication of our Sustainability Report over the fiscal year 2023 / 2024.

The JR Shipping Group, of which JR Shipping and SeaZip Offshore Service are part, is proud to announce the publication of the second Sustainability Report, which remarks a big step into CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) compliance. CSRD Compliance, in other words, contains reporting on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) themes according to the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS).

Where the introduction of these relatively new regulations is still in full development, JR Shipping Group has already committed to exploring what this means for its organisation. Therefore, in the first publication of the sustainability report, we made an effort to set ambitions and goals and take note of the mandatory parts of the analyses. In the second, most recent, publication, the analyses performed went into more depth. Adding a double materiality analysis gave more concrete value to the goals and ambitions and made the organisation’s focus and priorities clearer.

The organisation is pleased with the steps taken. But that is just the beginning. Currently, efforts are being made towards a report for 2024 / 2025 in the coming months, prioritising the creation of a baseline measurement so that a clear reference point is established from which the progress of the targets can be measured. Internally, the focus is on growing knowledge. Therefore, relevant employees are active in various working groups. In this way, they can further discuss substantive topics related to ESG.

ESG as a chance

ESG is not an obligation for us but an opportunity. Chances in various ways;

  • Environmental: We have taken concrete steps to reduce our ecological footprint. From researching biofuel as an alternative fuel to innovative retrofitting projects for our ships, we are determined to minimise our environmental impact.
  • Social: We invest in our people and create an inclusive and safe working environment. We are grateful for the involvement of all our employees who have helped us in prepare this report and continuously inspire us to improve.
  • Governance: Transparency and responsible decision-making are crucial for our success. We have strengthened our governance structures to ensure that ethical choices and social responsibility are at the core of our business operations.

Let’s Commit!

Since it is impossible to achieve this alone, we hope that this report will initiate the conversation. We hope that our supply chain feels compelled to engage in conversation following this report. JR Shipping Group is very curious how different insights and interests can contribute to improving the efficiency of our operations. Therefore, our motto is: Let’s commit together towards Excellence in Sustainable Short Sea Shipping!
